Calif. legislator Mike Gipson in solidarity with UTLA

Gipson joins UTLA ‘Call to Action’ against ‘aggressive agenda and cabinet appointees’ put forth by President-elect Donald Trump

CARSON – Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair Mike A. Gipson will join United Teachers of Los Angeles (UTLA) for a “Call to Action” against what he terms “the aggressive agenda and cabinet appointees put forth by the president-elect.”

“We have to stand up to bullies like President-elect Trump and his appointees who seek to hemorrhage our communities by dividing us, ” said Gipson. “California has led on so many national issues. We cannot and will not allow for a Trump administration to unravel what we worked so hard for.”

In December 2016, Gipson co-authored House Resolution 4 (HR4) to condemn Trump’s rhetoric and anticipated immigration policies. HR4 also urges for the continuation of President Obama’s executive action that grants “Dreamers” a temporary stay of deportation.

“I was proud to co-author HR4 on the Assembly’s first day of the session that sends a message to the incoming administration in Washington that if they want a fight, we’re up for it. As a former member of UTLA, I’m proud to stand with our teachers and students for that fight,” Gipson said.

On Jan. 19, students, parents, educators, school staff, and community members will participate in a “Call to Action” where UTLA members will join in solidarity against the attacks that students and schools face. In addition, members will join a massive “Tweetstorm” against Trump by sending a photo message to him written on an oversized letter from each school via Twitter with the tag #schooltrump.
