Housing project opens door to affordable housing for more than 50 veterans and their families
CARSON – The Carson City Council has unanimously approved a 51-unit affordable housing development with preference to U.S. veterans and their families. Thomas Safran & Associates, a Los Angeles area -based housing developer, will spearhead the development.
The project will include amenities such as a community room, outdoor courtyard with grill, fitness center, and a computer room. Social services and classes on financial planning assistance and other vocations will be provided to the residents free of charge.
The City will provide up to $5.5 million in financial housing assistance toward project development costs. The developer will also seek a 9 percent Low Income Housing Tax Credit from the California Tax Credit Allocation Committee (TCAC) to finance the project. Construction on the project is scheduled to begin later this year.
“When it comes to our veterans and their [families], Carson is putting its money where its mouth is,” said Mayor Albert Robles. “We hope that other communities and especially the Federal government find a way to assist those who so bravely and unselfishly served our country. We can’t wait until this beautiful and much needed project is built.”
