Molina Medical on verge of first college health center

Campus and community resource, Molina Health Center to begin serving El Camino College-Compton Center next week

COMPTON – Molina Medical Group will debut its first-ever college-based health center, the Molina Health Center, Feb. 14 at El Camino College-Compton Center. The clinic is the 20th in the company’s growing list of facilities in California.

The health center is a highly notable addition as it is the first student health center in the 60-year history of the college. In conjunction with the start of the spring semester, the clinic will provide access to quality health care for 12,000 students each semester.

“It’s perfect timing that the health center will open on February 14 because this is our valentine to our students,” said ECC Compton Center Provost/CEO Dr. Keith Curry.

The health clinic, which will be operated and staffed by the Molina Healthcare Inc. subsidiary, is situated near Campus police office and the gymnasium.

Gloria Calderon, president of Molina Medical Management said the opportunity to serve the academic institution is unprecedented and an honor.

“As a national health care company that started as a single clinic in Los Angeles County over 35 years ago, we have [a] long history of providing quality care and we believe that the clinic will help enhance the overall health and wellness of all students, which will help them achieve their greatest educational potential. We look forward to opening our doors this coming spring season,” said Calderon.

A nominal $19 fee will give students access to physicals, care for colds and flu, family planning (including pregnancy tests), health education, walk-in service, and same-day appointments.

Since 1985, Molina Healthcare of California has been providing government-funded care for low-income communities with a mission to provide quality health care to people receiving government assistance. The company serves upwards of 683,000 individuals through Medi-Cal, Medicare, Medicare-Medicaid, and Covered California. Service areas include Sacramento, Los Angeles, San Bernardino, Riverside, San Diego, and Orange, and Imperial counties, operating 19 primary care clinics throughout the state.

Hours for the campus health center will be: Tuesday and Wednesday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.; and Thursday, 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, (888) 562-5442, Ext. 119717 / Chandler.Harris@MolinaHealthCare.Com
